Back Hallway and Hoosier Cabinet

I really thought that I might wow you all and put up two posts in as many days, but it just wasn't meant to be!

I did have a very enjoyable evening out last night with a bunch of other homeschool moms. Yes, we are still technically homeschoolers, even though Cammi is taking 2 classes at the high school this year.

So one of the things that I have done along with the overall painting downstairs was paint a chalk board strip on my back hallway.
This is what greets most people when they enter the house, since most use the back door. You can see, it is also where all of our "stuff" gets dropped when we come home.  I actually cleaned it up some for this shot!

I knew that we had to have places to hang coats and such here, so when I started talking about what to use, DH remembered the coatracks that were in the old church.  So we contacted the new owners and sure enough there was still one there.  There were originally at least 4, but no idea what happened to the rest of them.

I'm not great at fancy handwriting, but it's fun coming up with things to write on the chalkboard.
Part of the reason that we wanted to make the kitchen larger was to be able to move my Hoosier cabinet in there.  This originally belonged to my great-grandma.
Since this is meant to be a kitchen piece, I thought that I would fill it with kitchen items.
The red recipe box was my grandma's and has her recipes still in it.
Yes, the chocolate chips are a temptation. ;)
Love cookbooks!!

Blessings,

Ronda

No We Are Not Moving

Sure looks like we're moving, doesn't it?  Feels like that would be easier some days!  But, no, this is just getting all the "stuff" out of the way to do our renovations.
I will certainly not be in a big hurry to junk up these shelves again!  It will be a great time to purge.  With the "end" of home schooling in my sight, I will most likely donate anything that smacks of homeschooling to our local group.  Unless that is, one of my kids wants some of it in case they eventually choose to home school their own kids. :)
Hubby will most likely not be happy with me for posting these pics since it was certainly not his finest work.  But that is why much of it is coming off and is getting re-worked.  There was a stressful, long trip to Lowe's last night where we discussed what he would remove and what he would add to make it look more professional.
Of course, you must understand that this was actually his first experience with woodworking of any kind, at the time we were both pretty content with the result.  Now that he has so much more experience, we are both eager for him to improve on this.

More of our floor waiting to be put down! :)

Quite an Evening

This evening was the Harvest Gathering for our home school co-op.  It was an awesome time filled with displays from the various classes that were offered throughout this semester. We had a demonstration of rain water run-off, a tae-kwon-do demonstration, and a derby car race.  Not to mention MY awesome girls chorus, GRACE Notes, singing a lovely prayer.  Plus, lots of good food and fellowship.  Never been a better one in my opinion!  I would say we have been doing these for about 6 years now.

Anyway...not much to report in the way of projects around here.  The new chairs are making progress, but not ready to show.  The leaf is a learning process for hubby.  It looks like it didn't turn out as well as we would have liked, but it will still be usable.

Another project I have been contemplating is my stairs.  I would really like to pull up the carpet and do some really nifty with them.  Hmmm...something maybe, sorta, possibly, but not quite like this.....

This is a little more detailed and possibly a little more rustic than I would probably do.  Have you tried a stair project?  Tell me about it.  And while you are at it, tell me if you think this one is do-able for me, a baby DIY-er.

Blessings,

Ronda
